Derrick was born a Yorkshire Tyke in 1947, crossed the Pennines to obtain, in 1969, both a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from UMIST and a Lancashire Lass (Pat) as wife. He then served articles as a Chartered Accountant, ultimately becoming FCA and spent his career implementing, improving and occasionally specifying from scratch systems in their widest sense in businesses large and small, retiring from a family software business in 2018.
